PhD – Biosketch
Sarah Wootton is an Associate Professor of Veterinary Virology in the Department of Pathobiology at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from the University of Guelph in 1997, and her PhD in Veterinary Virology from the same institute in 2002. Subsequently, she moved to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, WA to study oncogenic retroviruses and lung gene therapy in the laboratory of Dr. Dusty Miller. During this time, she was supported by postdoctoral fellowships from both the CIHR and NSERC. In September 2007, she joined the faculty at the University of Guelph. Dr. Wootton’s research interests are currently focused on the molecular pathogenesis of retrovirus-induced lung and nasal cancer in sheep, gene therapy for lung and liver diseases, oncolytic virotherapy and viral vectored vaccines.
